My Life in Dogs

Dogs have always been a huge part of my life. They are my favorite pets, and I see many in my future when I finally have my own home. I’ve had a dog in my life for as long as I can remember, and there are three that influenced me greatly.

Dixie was my first dog. As a German Shepherd, she was incredibly sweet and loyal. Because I grew up with her, I remember more of her later years, so I remember her as being very mellow.  Though she may not have been as active as most dogs, especially with hip problems in later life, she was a big part of my childhood and probably the sweetest dog I have ever had. We put her to sleep around the age of thirteen because her back legs finally gave out.

Casey was a feisty Dachshund, much different from Dixie, although they were very good friends.  He liked to roam and was certainly not the homebody Dixie was.  He was a lot of fun-he would love to grab a sock and run around the couch with it, and he also enjoyed following us when we went on walks. He died around the age of eight or nine.

Nicholas, pictured below, is my dog now (a Golden Retriever). We got him when he was a year old, and until recently he had the energy of any puppy.  He has been slowing down a little lately due to age, but he is sweet and devoted.  He is getting more spoiled every day. I love his personality!

There you have it.  I have been so blessed to have companions like these in my life, and they are the reason why I am so partial to dogs. I love dogs!IMG_0349
